The Sire Larry Carlton S3 is loaded with one Sire Standard-ST humbucker, two Sire Standard-ST single-coil pickups, and a 5-way switch. Glassy highs, restrained mids, punchy lows, quacky in-between tones: the S3 provides a versatile tonal palette that calls to mind the tones of the past, with enough flexibility to handle any modern application you can throw at it. Best of all, these pickups were designed in collaboration with studio and session legend Larry Carlton to all but guarantee their versatility and superb sonic range.

A neck built for performance

Every facet of the Larry Carlton S3’s neck was designed with high-speed fingerboard finesse in mind — no surprise if you’re at all familiar with Mr. 335’s genre-defying chops! The S3 starts with the time-tested formula of a maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard, then loaded up with beefy medium-jumbo frets in a 9.5-inch radius to facilitate smooth, low action and effortless bendability. Beyond that, the neck’s comfortable “C” shape is designed to conform to the palms of all manner of players, delivering a “just-right” profile that’s neither too thick or too thin.

Mahogany body for enhanced tonal warmth

Sweetwater carries a vast variety of 3-pickup double-cut solidbodies, but it’s a surprisingly rare occurrence for one of these instruments to depart from the typical alder or ash construction. The Sire Larry Carlton S3 defies this particular sonic convention with a lightweight mahogany body, imparting a warmer, rounder feel to this guitar’s tonal profile. It’s a perfect complement to the instrument's pickup configuration, smoothing out some of the high end while still retaining perfect note-to-note clarity.
